Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third child of the family. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father passed away, which made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as a waitress or cleaner to help them be able to survive. Ruth was raised in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts where she attended high school. She quit school in just two years in order to study acting. The path she chose did not come without challenges. While in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed to do was abyssal. Her next job was as the "hat check" woman at a nightclub until she decided to quit and returned to Boston. She was in Boston where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and for the remainder of her time as an usherette. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
