Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, who was a carnival barker, died when she was a small girl, requiring her mother to help support the family by being waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth was a student at the school located in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. In the midst of only two years in school she left for the acting career. The path was difficult to pursue. Although she got an interview as a hat check girl in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine but no theater jobs was offered. Following a short time as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home to the United States and quit her job. There she earned a living working as an usherette during the day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first acting job. The study of drama helped her to graduate in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
