Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter of their family. After her father died as a carnival barker, at the age of a young girl and she was forced to keep the family going by working as a cook and server. Ruth attended the school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. Her school was closed in two short years to pursue acting. The path she chose was filled with challenges. After landing a gig in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to secure work on stage. Then in NYC, she was employed at a bar, as an entry-point girl, before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as an actor who was steady. She earned money by doing shifts during the day, as an usherette. She was a drama student in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
