Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. At the age of five the carnival barker father passed away and left her mother no option but to become a cleaner girl and waitress to support her family. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She went to school in the area. She left the institution she was in after only two years in pursuit of a career as an actor. The path she chose was not without obstacles. In New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed to do was abyssal. After that, she was the hat checker in an evening club, before deciding to call her quits and relocating to Boston. She was in Boston where she worked during the evening as an actor for the New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time as an usherette. Drama studies led her to graduate at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
