Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. The young woman was just a child when her father, who was employed as the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother was forced to perform tasks such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in the tenement area of poverty of Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended school. She left school after two short years to pursue acting. The path she chose was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first task was to pose stills for crime magazines. her dream of performing in the theater she longed for was not available. After a brief time as a club hat girl, she decided to return home and quit her job.
